Profits from contraband tobacco are known to have a direct link to criminal activity, such as trafficking of drugs, purchasing illegal weapons and funding other illicit activities.
The sale or possession of contraband tobacco has serious consequences.
No person shall sell, offer for sale, transport, deliver, distribute or have in their possession for the purpose of sale a tobacco product, or raw leaf tobacco that is not packaged, unless it is stamped.
Individuals in violation of this law may be charged up to $10,000 and sentenced up to 5 years in jail under the Criminal Code.
